Hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) is a backbone technology being implemented by cable companies across the globe.  As the name suggests, HFC is basically a combination of optical fiber and coaxial cable (Ellis).  This technology allows cable providers to offer multiple services through fewer lines because of the fiber's large bandwidth capacity, or capability of transmitting data at a more rapid rate (Dictionary.com).  This tutorial is designed to give you a better understanding of the emerging HFC technology by explaining the following concepts:

the infrastructure that is necessary, both current and new
how the transmission of data occurs
why HFC is a better choice than its alternatives
the availability of this technology, as well as the costs
